  56.     Well - although I would also like to see them offer an o40 system - I also see why they 
  57. might not be.  If the rumors are true, and the CPU is a plcc directly on the board, not socketed - 
  58. then this will really suck.

  60.     If however, this is because it is merely a prototype and they intend to offer a machine 
  61. with the CPU on a simple daughter board...  Then it would be cool.  This would mean that a single 
  62. housing (the case) and some standard options (HD and CD) would be present on Amiga's with a 
  63. variety of CPUs.  Let me put this out for general consumption;  Lets hope they offer a range of 
  64. processor options from 68ec030 to 68060s.  With upgrades available from AT in the form of a 
  65. simple daughter board (I'm not talking about the one in the A4000 with Warp-engines and 
  66. Cyberstorm accelerators - just a simple multipurpose CPU board) it could form the base of a pretty 
  67. cool, and expandable architecture.

  77.     If possible, as one went up the ladder so to speak, the HD would get a little bigger, say 
  78. starting at 260MB and going up 50-100MB each step.  Also, slightly more RAM with each step - 
  79. starting at 4MB Fast and jumping up to 8 for the o40s, and maybe 12 for the o60...

  81.     That way, they'd be offering something in everybodies price range.  And, you could 
  82. upgrade w/o having to scrap the whole thing.

  84.     You'll note that there is no PPC listed here.  I am talking a very simple CPU daughter 
  85. board.  Attempting to engineer a slot that could fully utilize a range of processors from the o30 to a 
  86. PPC would violate the "simple" principle.  However, as I am viewing this machine as the base brain 
  87. of an extensible system - and the central multi-purpose bus expansion slot as a spine - I envision that 
  88. a CPU board with PCI slots and a PPC processor could be mounted on it - superceding the base 
  89. brain where necessary.
